Win Siren by Tricia Rayburn

Tricia Rayburn is the second author we are featuring during Siren Week. Tricia Rayburn is a YA author from New York that is best known for her Maggie Bean series. Taking it to a new level, her latest release (due out July 13th) is Siren. And just going by the cover you can tell it is a bit different... have I mentioned how YA covers have just been on a roll??

SirenSiren by Tricia Rayburn

Seventeen-year-old Vanessa Sands is afraid of everything—the dark, heights, the ocean—but her fearless older sister, Justine, has always been there to coach her through every challenge. That is, until Justine goes cliff-diving one night near the family’s vacation house in Maine, and her lifeless body washes up on shore the next day.

Though her parents hope that they’ll be able to find closure back in Boston, Vanessa can’t help feeling that her sister’s death wasn’t an accident. After discovering that Justine was keeping a lot of secrets, Vanessa returns to Winter Harbor, hoping that Justine’s boyfriend might know more. But Caleb has been missing since Justine’s death.

Soon, it’s not just Vanessa who’s afraid. All of Winter Harbor is abuzz with anxiety when another body washes ashore, and panic sets in when the small town becomes host to a string of fatal, water-related accidents in which all the victims are found, horrifically, grinning from ear to ear.

Vanessa turns to Caleb’s brother, Simon, for help, and begins to find herself drawn to him. As the pair tries to understand the sudden rash of creepy drownings, Vanessa uncovers a secret that threatens her new romance—and will change her life forever.

This book sounds really good! Hmmm...I don't like to think about my fears very often. I have a strong dislike of snakes, that would probably border on fear.

As far as things in the oceans/lakes/seas that we have no clue about--I can definitely believe that. So much of our oceans and seas remain unexplored, and people are always finding lost ships and other lost things in the seas and oceans. I can easily believe that there are things we don't know about our oceans.

I'm looking forward to reading this one. Sounds good! Thanks for the giveaway! I'm afraid of bugs, terrified. They creep me out. I don't believe that there's anything under water, I used to wish the lochness monster was real but now I really don't believe it. =)

I have a real phobia about jelly-fish. When I was a kid, I spent my summers on the Connecticut coast, and the waters were infested with jelly-fish. There could sometimes be more jelly-fish in the water than people on the beach, and they would wash up alive 5 feet from the sand.

Even now, I get super anxious about swimming on the Atlantic coast, which is really sad for someone who loves to be in the water. I just stick to the pool.

I totally believe that there are mysterious sea creatures in the water. Maybe even swimming with us, that we would never know are there.

This sounds really good. Found it interesting that she's afraid of the ocean - I am too. I never let on while my kids were small but recently told them. I figure I drowned in a past life.

I am really afraid of fire, as in house burning down fire.

And yes I think there are things in the ocean we are not aware of. It is too vast and too deep to have discovered everything.

I'm afraid of big, creepy spiders and walking through big spiderwebs.
As far as the ocean goes, I'd rather stay on top of it, or on the shore, rather than going in it. There are just too many big creatures swimming in it for me to want to hang out there.
I'm looking forward to checking out Siren, it sounds really good.

I am afraid of Black Widows. When I was a kid I was told that they liked to kill people and when they saw you they would give chase and try and bite you. I still have a hard time seeing them.

Thanks for the giveaway!! Looks like an awesome book.

I am afraid of heights. As far as something being the sea, I believe there are animals or creatures that we don't know about. The sea is still a very big mystery. I am very interested in reading this book. Please enter me in contest. Thank you. Tore923@aol.com

The ocean has creatures we can't even imagine! Mermaids were born out of something, so I think it is okay to assume that some type of variation lurks somewhere in the darkest part of the ocean.

This is such a coincidence. I just wrote a post last week saying that I'm terrified of the deep blue sea. I mean I like the beach and deep sea fishing but if I was left in the middle of the ocean to swim I would freak out! I guess it is really fear of the unknown but I remember seeing Dead Calm with Nicole Kidman and she was swimming of her boat and it gave me the shivers.
Oh and I also have podophobia- fear of feet. I don't know where it came from but when bare feet are near me I start sweating and my stomach gets all knotted up.

I've been waiting for Siren for a long time, so yay for Siren coming out soon!
I'm afraid about normal things. Such as planes crashing, heights ( not all the time, but then I hiked for the very first time and I got so scared of heights because it was a mountain and it's scary. )
Creepers scare me and I remember someone blogging about their friend saying that they saw this guy staring outside of his window. That scared me! Also guillotines, they freak me out. The blade and how you're supposed to be beheaded? Scary all over. Many things freak me out, period.

I have a lot of fears but the newest one is bats. I have always loved bats but last summer I had a nightmare that one landed on my back and started biting me. When I woke up I heard something so I rolled over and there was a bat flying over my bed. When I got up to leave my room it started to dive at me. I ended up running all over the house with it following me. lol We didn't catch it until the next night when it came after me again. I am still having nightmares.

I believe in a lot of things that most people don't so of course I believe in mermaids, the Loch Ness Monster...basically anything and everything.

Thanks for the great giveaway!!

The deeper the ocean is explored, the more new creatures are found. So, there is no telling what will someday be found down there.
As to what I am afraid of, it's not being able to breathe. That is the main reason I do not swim.

Well, since we're talking about the ocean: I'm a little afraid of sharks. And if I was stranded & there was blood to attract them, I'd be really afraid of sharks.

As for other things in the ocean: Isn't Atlantis down there somewhere? I know that's not scary, actually it'd be fantastic unless that's where Nessy or the underwater aliens make their home. : )

Really, though, I love all the water-based myths: Selkies, Mermaids, Sirens, Atlantis: So imaginative! As long as I don't have to meet any of the creatures because they usually want to kill/kidnap you.

I'm scared of people chasing me and clowns. If someone (even playing) runs at me I will curl up in a ball and give-up. I would surely be the first to die in a horror movie.

I am terrified of water. I almost drowned 4 times when I was young. One time my son was 3 he walked into the deep end of the pool. I froze, I literally couldn't move. My neighbor jumped in and got him, and everything was okay. I have a really hard time with it.

Would love to be entertained with this book. Itsounds like a very good read.
