White Cat Discussion Questions

White Cat (Curse Workers, Book 1)White Cat by Holly Black Discussion Questions

  1. Blacks characters pay a price for being powerful curse workers and
experience a phenomenon called "blowback" whenever they worked someone. If you had a superpower but knew by using it you would experience a crippling
side effect would you still use it?
  2. Family plays an important role in White Cat (Curse Workers) -- who did you like the most or the least in Cassel's family and why ??
  3. What did you think about the entire world that Holly Black built? The gloves, the curses? Can you imagine a world like this where an uncovered hand could be a dangerous weapon?
  4. With family like this who needs enemies right? Is blood thicker than water? Or in this case should Cassel think about getting a name change and moving far far away from his familial bonds?
  5. Do think this book is a good set up for a sequel? If so, make your predictions

And for a special spoiler question...

What did you think about Cassel's mother and the curse she worked in the last pages of the book? Cassel finally thinks he is getting some love...and wham-O!

Discussion Questions

Touched by an AlienForgive the lateness...and my "paraphrasing" these questions. My power chord on the laptop has gone "kerplunk" and that is where I organize my emails. So...here are the discussion questions for Touched by an Alien.

1.  When dealing with aliens, what do you think is more likely: the scary, super-smart, totally different species entirely aliens? Or the pretty-much just like humans, easy to relate to, here to save Earth aliens?

2. Did you think it was convenient that Kitty's parents were so accepting of the aliens and that they both had "secret" jobs?

3. Did it seem that Kitty's sex life actually helped focus her and make better decisions and conclusions?

4. Which one? Jeff or Christopher? Why?

5.  The parasites had a very strange and grossly exaggerated form when they manifested. Do you think this was a little over the top, or just totally kick butt and you would love to take on a giant slug?

Discussion Questions for Birthmarked

  1. When reading dystopian, the scary aspect is thinking, "Could this happen one day?" Did you ask yourself this while reading Birthmarked? Do you think a future like this is possible?
  2. How did the puzzle aspect of the story work for you?  Did you figure out the code or was the explanation a surprise? Does this element work for you in a story or is there one you like/appreciate more?
  3. Gaia follows in the steps of her mother as a midwife. For Gaia in the beginning its service and only later does she realize what taking the babies signifies. Can you put yourself in the mothers role, what would you do if Gaia tried to take your newborn?
  4. Gaia feels ugly because of her scar and unable to fit in within the wall (enclave) because she wasn't perfect. Do you think finding out that her parents lied to her [about how she got the scar] was able to move the story along??

Bitten by Kelley Armstrong - BWB Discussion Questions

Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, Book 1)
  1. Let's talk relationships.  What did you think of Elena's relationship with Philip? Were her feelings for him genuine? Why or why not?
  2. Keeping secrets from someone you love, is it being true to yourself?  Elena was hiding out in Toronto and away from the Pack. Did this make Elena a stronger character or whiny?
  3. Kelley Armstrong's werewolves lean more towards the traditional side of the wolf legend. What "were" type are you? Do you enjoy the pain riddled, desiring human flesh werewolves like the Wolfman or the intensely scary wolves like in the movie Silver Bullet or do you prefer painless shifters that keep a majority of human emotions...ie..Twilight and other light PNR novels?
  4. Could you forgive the man you loved if he were to BITE you like what occurred with Elena?
